My name is Michaela, I am 27.
I started this blog as a way of practicing writing as I eventually want to go into the profession. Therefore, all comments made will be very helpful for me,whether they relate to the content or my writing style.
Although I write on different topics, the second purpose of this blog is to get my voice out there about mental health and to hopefully inspire others to become more open about their illnesses, and also to educate loved ones of those affected or just anyone who is interested in the topic of mental health.
I was diagnosed with type II bipolar in 2011 but I have now developed Rapid Cycling Bipolar, meaning that- during an episode- sometimes my moods can go from one extreme to another in under an hour. Bipolar is an affliction I will always have to live with but I try not to let it define me; instead of it being a part of me, I see it as an outside force.
I was in recovery for alcoholism for five years but I recently started drinking again.
Last year I suffered with a prolonged episode of Anorexia which ended in hospitalization and rehab. I still have my slips but at present I am in remission.
I am a graduate from the University of Kent where I studied Philosophy for five years. My degree taught me a great deal about all sorts of topics and really opened my mind and view on the world and people. I have recently started reading philosophical texts again and you can and will find on occasion that I post some of my essays on my blog.
I am a passionate vegan and supporter and advocate of animal rights (I have written a little about it in this blog).
I also love music. I play guitar and sing which brings me a lot of release from the stresses of every day life.
I am currently located in Athens, Greece, but I come from a small island in England called the Isle of Wight which will always be my base.
I hope my blog is of some use to all of you in some way, or that perhaps you simply get some enjoyment out of reading it. I try to update it as often as I can but bare with me as from time to time- like all writers- I suffer with writers block!
